The chairwoman of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Josephine Nkrumah, has resigned from her post.
Josephine Nkrumah says she no longer wishes to hold the office from April 30, 2022.
This is according to a letter to the commission's staff, which was sighted by citinewsroom.com.
"It has been my honor to serve Ghana through this Commission as Vice Chairperson (April 1, 2015 - December 19, 2016) and as Chairperson (December 20, 2016 to date). I would like to thank you all for your cooperation and support during my service as Chairperson. It has been an honour and a pleasure to work with you," portions of the letter read.
The letter did not indicate why she was resigning, but she is reportedly taking a job with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The outgoing NCCE chairwoman happens to be one of the few appointees of the former John Mahama administration that remained in office after the Akufo-Addo government took office in 2017.
"In the next few weeks, I will send you the handover protocols for the transition period," she said.
Prior to her final appointment, Mrs. Josephine Nkrumah served in her position as Vice Chairperson for Finance and Administration of the Commission.
This was after Mrs. Charlotte Osei, who was then Chairperson of the NCCE, was appointed Chairperson of the Electoral Commission in 2015.
Ms. Nkrumah holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and French from the University of Ghana, Legon.
She was admitted to the Ghana Bar in February 1997.
She also holds a Master of Law (LLM) from the International Maritime Law Institute (IMO), Malta, specialising in maritime law.
Prior to joining NCCE, she founded the law firm Lumens Veritals Law.
She has served on the advisory board of the Ministry of Transport and the boards of other private companies.
