The Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, has strongly attacked Dome Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, over reports that she is blackmailing the government.
Speaking on the GBC breakfast show on Monday, February 21, 2022, Agyapong said her alleged bid to become deputy majority leader, a position she held in the previous parliament, showed a lack of ambition.
"She says she wants to be deputy majority leader. This woman has failed in life. A whole cabinet minister [for Equality, Children and Social Protection] is now calling for her to be made deputy majority leader before she gets [to Parliament]."
The Assin Central MP also suggested that Ms. Adwoa Safo should even lose her seat after her recent behaviour.
"You do not come to parliament and dance on TikTok... Dome Kwabenya is not for [your father] Apostle Kwadwo Safo."
Other NPP members have also accused Dome Kwabenya MP of sabotaging the party.
A deputy minister of trade and industry, Michael Kofi Okyere Baafi, said her constant absence from parliament was hampering government work in the chamber.
This comes against the backdrop of the government's attempts to pass the controversial E-Levy bill.
The law faces fierce opposition from the minority, which has only one seat less in parliament than the majority faction.
However, it received support from the Africa Centre for Women in Politics, which criticised what it described as vicious attacks on it.
The group said in a statement that comments made against MP for her constant absence from parliament were in poor taste and sought to bring her name into disrepute.
Dome-Kwabenya constituents divided over calls for Adjoa Safo's expulsion from parliament
Meanwhile, Adwoa Safo's constituents are divided over the call to remove her from parliament.
While 47% of Dome-Kwabenya residents do not support the recall of Sarah Adwoa Safo, 44% support such a demand.
This is according to a survey conducted by Global Info Analytics, a company that conducts economic and market research and forecasts political risks.
