‘We do not support harassment of journalists’ – Rev Korankye Ankrah tells government

The General Overseer of Royalhouse Chapel International, Sam Korankye Ankrah, has reiterated his call for government accountability.

He said government officials must be transparent about their responsibilities and the use of government funds.

"We, the Ghanaian people, have decided that we will not just stand in line to vote for our leaders and then go to sleep. If we vote for them, we will hold them accountable.

"They must be accountable for the power they have been given. Those who are in power will be accountable to the people and will no longer lead the people by the nose," he stressed on Sunday.

Rev. Korankye Ankrah made these statements when two people accused of allegedly publishing false news visited his church and asked for prayer and intervention.

The executive director of the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), Mensah Thompson, was arrested in connection with a Facebook publication in which he claimed that family members of President Akufo-Addo travelled to the United Kingdom on the presidential jet for shopping during the Christmas holidays.

Bobbie Ansah of Accra FM was also charged with publishing fake news and offensive behavior.

The duo was at Royalhouse Chapel International for prayers where the Apostle General expressed hope that press freedom would be realised through their legal battles.

"We do not support the harassment of journalists who go about their work and hold power accountable. We tell them that this will be a task not only for the journalists and the courts, but for every citizen of this nation.

"Freedom of the press will be taken to a new level by this case. Our country will be a better place when this case is over. The press will be strengthened by this case," he preached.

He prayed for the duo, who are currently out on bail, and asked for divine protection from any threat to their lives.
