The Executive Director of the Alliance of Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), Mensah Thompson, and the Moderator of Accra FM, Bobie Ansah, came to the Royal House Chapel International Church to thank God for their release.
Their work colleagues and families joined them for the thanksgiving service on Sunday.
The lead pastor of Royal House Chapel, Apostle Sam Korankye Ankrah, prayed for the two and assured them that the two media workers have nothing to fear as notable personalities have spoken out on the issue.
"I pray for mercy on your lives, wisdom and protection because any threat to your lives today on this altar we nullify. Any threat to your family members we cancel. They will gather against you, but not through the Lord.
"And any weapon that rises against you, whether political, spiritual, financial, through manipulation or brute force, we pray that the Lord will raise your standard against them.
"We pray that you live in peace, that Ghana experiences peace, that the oppressors do not prevail, that freedom and democracy flourish, but above all development and prosperity," prayed the man of God.
He noted that as a result of the trial of the two, "freedom of the press will come to another level."
He also reiterated his call for accountability from the government.
Apostle Ankrah believes that government officials must educate people about their responsibilities.
"We will ask them to be accountable for the promises they make when we elect them. So we are telling them that this will not only be the task of journalists and courts, but of all citizens of this nation," he said.
He continued to pray for them before they headed to their respective seats.
Police arrested the two media workers on two separate charges of publishing false news.
Mr. Thompson was arrested for publishing false news; he was also charged with offensive conduct contributing to breach of the peace.
This came after he made claims on Facebook last year that President Akufo-Addo's relatives used the presidential jet for a shopping trip in the United Kingdom.
He later retracted the post and apologized for it.
He was arraigned in court and later released on GH¢50,000 bail and two sureties. The case was adjourned until March 10, 2022.
Radio host Kwabena Bobie Ansah, on the other hand, was arrested at 10 p.m. on February 10, shortly after the end of his political talk show, by persons claiming to be national security personnel.
He was also accused of publishing a false report on January 1 this year accusing the president's spouses of obtaining "state land in AU Village, near Kotoka International Airport, for the construction of the Rebecca Foundation."
According to the police, the said presenter also referred to the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, as a "thief and that she stole government land near Kotoka International Airport," a statement he knew was "likely cause for trespass."
He was also granted GH¢50,000 bail on February 11 with two sureties to appear in court on March 14, 2022.
