Ambassador-Designate Kojo Choi Reflects on Helicopter Crash with Personal Heartbreak

Ghana’s Ambassador-Designate to South Korea, Kojo Choi, conveyed his deep shock and sorrow over the recent military helicopter crash, saying he had spoken to one of the victims earlier that day—news he still finds hard to reconcile.

Speaking to the media, Choi recalled the moment he learned of the crash while in Korea:

“I spoke to one of them in the morning...” he said, voice heavy with emotion. The suddenness of the tragedy left him numb, and he feared for the worst.

Though unverified in mainstream reporting, social media posts have captured a more intimate response: Choi saying he had “fallen on my knee at 11 pm in Korea” and prayed fervently that no lives were lost—especially out of concern that the President might have been on board.

Whether that exact recollection is confirmed or not, what’s clear is the depth of anxiety and human empathy felt by Choi. His public expressions—both verified and circulating in digital spaces—underscore the personal shock that greeted the national tragedy.

As investigations continue into the cause of the crash, Choi’s words serve as a sobering reminder that behind every headline are real lives and personal grief. His reflections reinforce the urgency for transparency, solidarity, and national healing.
