The organizer of the social movement #FixtheCountry, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has been arrested by the police.

He was arrested for announcing a coup d'état in a social media post on Facebook in case the controversial electronic transfer tax (e-tax) is passed.

"The post contained a clear statement of intent with the possible will to carry out a coup d'état to undermine the Constitution of the Republic," a police statement confirming the arrest said.

Oliver will be brought before the court next Monday, February 14, 2022.

Earlier, the group issued a statement about the alleged disappearance of its member.

They said Mr. Barker-Vormawor could not be found after arriving at Kotoka International Airport from Portugal on Friday night.

The movement claimed some "unidentified armed men attacked him on his way to the arrivals hall at KIA."

"We continue to call on the good people of Ghana to avoid utterances that could lead to a breach of peace in the country as such acts are against the laws of the land," the police further warned in the statement.
