NPP activist Daniel Adomako, popularly known as Sir Obama Pokuase and Fante Comedy Granted Bail — But Remain in Custody Overnight

Accra, 13 August 2025 — Two prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) activists, Daniel Adomako, popularly known as Sir Obama Pokuase, and social media personality Fante Comedy (real name Prince Ofori), have been granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court, but will spend the night in police custody due to outstanding administrative processes.

Fante Comedy’s Case

Fante Comedy was arrested on 12 August alongside two others over allegations of issuing death threats and circulating false information in connection with the August 6 military helicopter crash, which claimed the lives of eight people, including top government officials.

The court granted him bail set at GH¢100,000 with three sureties, at least two of whom must be gainfully employed. As part of his bail conditions, he is required to deposit his passport with the police. His case has been adjourned to 25 August 2025 to allow further investigations.

Prosecutors allege that the TikTok content creator used his platform to make inflammatory statements and spread false news, potentially compromising public order during a sensitive national period.

Sir Obama Pokuase’s Case

Sir Obama Pokuase, a well-known NPP activist with a strong online following, was arrested on 13 August in an intelligence-led operation. His bail was fixed at GH¢50,000, with three sureties — two must be salaried workers, and one must be a government employee earning not less than GH¢3,000 a month.

According to police sources, his arrest is linked to the illegal possession and public display of sophisticated firearms. Videos and images allegedly shared by him on social media showed individuals brandishing unlicensed weapons.

Ongoing Security Operations

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that the arrests form part of a broader national security operation aimed at clamping down on the possession and circulation of illegal arms. Recent raids have led to the seizure of a significant cache of weapons and ammunition believed to be linked to criminal networks.

Officials say these operations are also part of a preventive strategy to curb the potential escalation of political violence ahead of the upcoming election period.

Next Steps

Although both men have met the legal requirements for bail, they will remain in custody overnight while their sureties are verified and other procedural steps are completed. Lawyers for the accused have expressed confidence that their clients will be released once the processes are finalised.

The developments have sparked widespread discussion on social media, with supporters and critics alike debating the balance between freedom of speech, public safety, and responsible use of online platforms.
